The 4 Cs
The “4 Cs” — carat, cut, colour and clarity — were designed to standardise the evaluation of diamonds. When it comes to coloured gemstones (sapphires, emeralds, rubies…), the 4 Cs can serve as a guideline, but are not enough on their own to judge the quality of a sapphire, emerald or ruby. In practice, for coloured gemstones we prioritise a detailed assessment of the colour (quality and intensity), a cut suited to the crystal type and any treatments applied, in addition to weight and transparency.

CARAT
The carat measures the weight of the gemstone. It remains relevant for all gems, as it determines size and price. The larger a gemstone, the rarer and more valuable it is. However, the cut and quality also influence its beauty and value. Large stones are rarer, but a small well-cut gemstone can be just as precious.
CUT
The cut of the gemstone is a key criterion for maximising its brilliance. A well-executed cut allows the stone to catch light and sparkle optimally. Faceting requirements vary according to the crystal structure. At Edenly, we ensure each gemstone is cut to reveal its natural radiance, focusing on “Good” and “Very Good” cuts to optimise its beauty.
COLOUR
Colour is one of the most important criteria in gemstone evaluation. For stones like ruby or sapphire, depth and intensity of colour determine rarity and value. Coloured gemstones are graded on hue scales ranging from the palest to the richest. For example, a deep blue sapphire or an intense red ruby is more valuable than a paler stone.
CLARITY
Clarity refers to the natural inclusions or imperfections inside the gemstone. The fewer visible inclusions to the naked eye, the higher the quality. A++ quality gems are highly sought after as they are transparent with no major inclusions and offer exceptional clarity. Most coloured gemstones have natural inclusions; these are more tolerated than in diamonds and are judged by their visual impact rather than a strict clarity standard, adding to each gem’s authenticity.

Quality, Certification and Origin of Edenly Gemstones
At Edenly, we select only gemstones that meet very strict quality criteria. Each gemstone is chosen for its exceptional brilliance, colour and clarity.

The Edenly Certificate
We are committed to full transparency on the quality of our gemstones. These are certified A++ (for L’Atelier creations) and meet international quality standards. Each Edenly piece is delivered with a certificate of authenticity detailing the weight and quality of the gemstones used, so you can be certain of your jewellery’s quality.
Origin of Edenly Gemstones
Our gemstones come from the four corners of the globe including Thailand, Australia, Myanmar, Madagascar, Ceylon, Mozambique, Zambia and Brazil.
We work exclusively with suppliers who are members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), an organisation that ensures responsible and ethical mining practices. We strictly comply with sourcing regulations, guaranteeing environmentally and socially responsible practices.
We also strive to reduce our environmental impact by increasing the use of synthetic gemstones, which offer the same quality as the most prestigious natural stones. These lab-grown gemstones are available in our bespoke L’Atelier creations and select collections.

How to Choose My Coloured Gemstone
Choosing a coloured gemstone depends first and foremost on your personal style and the message you wish to convey through your jewellery.
Whether you opt for a natural gemstone or a synthetic version, each stone we offer is carefully selected for its exceptional quality. At Edenly, we provide a wide range of coloured gemstones, both natural and synthetic, to suit your personal preferences and budget. Choose the gemstone that tells your story and let it express its full beauty.

Symbolism
Every gemstone carries symbolic meaning. If you seek a stone that embodies love and passion, ruby is an ideal choice. Sapphire, associated with wisdom and fidelity, is perfect for a timeless piece. Emerald symbolises rebirth and balance. This choice can add a special significance to your jewellery.
Colour and Brilliance
Colour is a key factor. If you love deep, classic tones, blue sapphire is an excellent choice. For a fresh, vibrant touch, emerald green or yellow sapphire offer intense, luminous colours. If you prefer softer hues, pink sapphire or violet amethyst are perfect options. Choose the colour that best matches your personal taste or holds special meaning for you.
Durability
Durability is essential, especially for everyday wear. Stones like black diamond, ruby, sapphire and emerald are highly resistant to scratches and impacts thanks to their hardness. If you’re looking for a more responsible option, synthetic gemstones offer the same characteristics while reducing environmental impact.
