The pendant, round, oval or plate-shaped, can be engraved on one or both sides. Some plain rings and bands also take an engraving on the inside or the outside. Does an engraving fade over time?
No. Engraved into real gold, the message writes itself durably into the metal. It may soften very slightly over the years through wear, but stays legible.
