14 and 18 carat gold jewellery, what's the difference?

It can sometimes be difficult to choose between two differently priced pieces of jewellery based on caratage.... I have decided to look into the matter and im here to share my findings with you...

The "carat" system was invented in the XIV century in England to facilitate the use of gold in commerceThe carat (ct) is a measure of the purity of precious metals such as gold. In this conext a carat represents 1/24th of the total mass of an alloy. For example, 15 ct gold means that in 24g of the alloy you will find 15g of pure gold. 24 carat gold is pure gold.

18 ct gold means that in 24g of the metal there is 18g or 75.01% of "pure gold". It is also known as 750/1000
